I often get question about the tuning of the Rabbit kites, and what setting I prefer on my kites. I will here share some off my experience with finding the right setting for me.
I have been riding the Rabbit series for about two years now, and I have tried a lot of different tunings. The Rabbit kite has a very user friendly tuning system, and you can easy tune your kite to fit you and you’re riding style.
You can tune both the back lines and the front lines. The kite will change dramatically when you tune it, so it’s a good idea to explore the different settings to find your favorite. It will make a world off difference!
Back lines:
This is where you tune the turning speed of your kite. You have 4 different settings. The longer back on the kite you have your pig tails, the more turning speed the kite will have. This is all about your personal preference.
The slower settings can be good if you are doing advanced wakestyle moves, and you want the kite to sit at 45 degree during your move. It can also be great if you are a beginner and don’t like the kite to react to fast to your inputs.
The faster settings can be good if you’re planning for some wicked kite loops, and for waves.
You can also adjust the power in the kite with the backlines. You have 3 different setting on the pigtails: strong wind, medium wind and light wind. The kite will be best tuned with the middle setting on this one, but it’s a great tool if you know the wind is a bit strong or light.
Front lines:
This is where you can make the big changes on your Rabbit kite. You have 3 different setting here: upwind, middle (stock), downwind.
And for those of you who really like the C-kite feel, you can take of the bridles on the kite. This will give you faster truning speed and faster reaction to youre inputs.
If you like your kite to have maximum de-power (and then I mean really huge de-power), this is the one for you. With this setting the kite will totally de-power if you let go of the bar. The kite will also go upwind like nothing else, and the turning speed will be a bit slower than the stock setting. This is the perfect setting for learning and beginners, with safety in focus!
This is the sweet spot of the Rabbit kite! This is the all-round setting, and will give you an extremely well-tuned kite. This setting will fit the most riders, and you can do absolutely everything with this one. The stock setting will make the Rabbit to the ultimate free ride machine! Also a great choice for old school tricks!
This one is for those of you who like the kite to sit further back in the wind window. For wakestylers the kite will give you more pull and pop, and will give you that split second you need to do the pass. For the wave riders the kite will fly downwind like nothing else, without falling from the sky. It just sits there while you go down the line! The kite will also turn faster with this setting, which also is very good for waves.
For those of you who really like the C-kite feel, you can also take off the bridles on the kite. This will give you faster turning speed and faster reaction to youre inputs.
My personal settings:
Frontlines:
After testing out different setting I found the downwind setting was the right one for me. It’s absolutely great for wakestyle and waves. I use this setting for all my Rabbits.
Backlines:
When it comes to backlines it depends a bit on the wind strength, and what tricks I plan to do. For wakestyle moves I like my kite not to turn to fast, so I often tune down the turning speed on the smaller kites. For kiteloops I like the kite to
be as fast as possible.
On all my Rabbits I prefer to ride the middle knot on the backlines pigtails (light wind, middle, strong wind). I feel this gives me the best tuned kite.
Here are my preferred settings for each kite:
Frontlines: Downwind
Backlines: Slow (freestyle), Fast (kiteloops/waves)
Frontlines: Downwind
Backlines: Fast
Frontlines: Downwind
Backlines: Fast
Frontlines: Downwind and fast
Backlines: Fast
These are my preferred settings, and it will not suite everyone. I recommend you try out different settings and tune the kite to your style and riding. This is one of the best features of the Rabbit kites, and you can easily tune the kite to custom fit you and what you prefer. You will be amazed of what you can do with the tuning system of these kites.
